Which complaints can you see the osteopath for?
- Acute and chronic back and neck complaints
- Acute or chronic joint complaints, for example of the shoulder, elbow, hip, knee or ankle
- Headaches, such as migraine and tension headache
- Jaw complaints, such as clenching and grinding (bruxism) and disc problems

Your osteopath: Steve Dierckxsens
Steve obtained a double master’s degree in physiotherapy at KU Leuven (2014) and a postgraduate degree in manual therapy. In 2023 he graduated as an osteopath D.O. He looks beyond the place where it hurts and also takes stress, nutrition and lifestyle into account. He previously worked with the Royal Belgian Ice Hockey Federation. He is also an osteopath at the company Tomorrowland.
Steve trained in osteopathy at the Flanders International College of Osteopathy (FICO).
What does a consultation look like?
- Conversation. The osteopath asks about your complaint, your medical history and your daily load.
- Examination. He examines how your body moves and where the restriction is.
- Treatment. Using manual techniques, he treats the joints, muscles and connective tissue involved in the complaint.
- Advice. You get an explanation and, where useful, exercises or adjustments for at home.
- Combination. Where applicable and in consultation with you: a parallel programme with physiotherapy.
Optional, for your first consultation. If possible, bring an overview of how your complaints have developed over time, and any results of technical examinations, such as imaging or a blood analysis. This helps your osteopath form a complete picture at the first consultation.
If the osteopath sees signs that a doctor should take a look, he will refer you.
Rates and reimbursement
Most Belgian health insurance funds (mutualities) reimburse part of the cost of osteopathy, often 10 to 15 euro per session, with a limit on the number of sessions. The amount and the conditions differ per fund. After the consultation you receive a certificate for your health insurance fund. There are also outpatient insurance plans that can provide a larger reimbursement. |
